CBGB

CBGB is unmistakably the historic birthplace of new wave and punk rock. Founded by Hilly Kristal in New York City in 1973, CBGB originally stood for “country, bluegrass, and blues”; however, the club rapidly became a famous venue for many outstanding musicians of a very different musical style. Everyone from Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, to the Ramones, to Blondie consistently performed at CBGB, not to mention thousands of other artists. From the 1980’s on, everyone knew that CBGB was the heart of hardcore punk music.
